Moving between apartments in Rochester
Most of our small moves happen inside a handful of neighbourhoods, and each one has its own quirk.
- Park Avenue and the South Wedge. Handsome old buildings, narrow Victorian staircases and very little off street parking. Sofas sometimes have to come apart to make the turn at the landing.
- Downtown and the East End. Managed buildings with service lifts, booking windows and a certificate of insurance requirement. Send us your building manager’s contact and we will arrange it.
- Monroe Avenue and the Neighborhood of the Arts. A lot of second and third floor walk ups, and street parking that rewards an early truck.
- Brighton, Henrietta and Greece. Garden apartment complexes where the carry from the building door to the parking lot is long, which is the thing that quietly adds an hour to a move.
What is included, and what you need to do
Included in the hourly rate: blanket wrapping and shrink wrap on furniture, dollies and hand trucks, disassembly and reassembly of beds and tables, floor and doorway protection, and all the wrapping taken away when we leave.
What you need to do: have everything in sealed, labelled boxes before we arrive. On a small move that is the difference between two hours and three, and you are paying by the hour. Loose items in laundry baskets and half emptied drawers are the most expensive habit in moving.
Moving out of a rental
Most of our small moves are people leaving a rental, and the deposit is usually the part that goes wrong. A few things worth doing on the day, none of which cost anything.
- Photograph every room after the last box leaves and before you hand the keys back, with the date on. It is the only evidence that works in a dispute.
- Check behind and under the furniture we move. Scuffs that were hidden for two years appear the moment a wardrobe comes off the wall, and it is better to find them yourself.
- Tell us where the furniture came from if it was already there. Anything belonging to the landlord stays, and we would rather be told than guess.
- Book the crew for earlier in the day than you think you need if the landlord walkthrough is the same afternoon. A move that runs late turns into a deposit problem.
- Take the curtain rails, shelves and light fittings you installed. People forget, and they are rarely worth a second trip.
We protect floors, doorframes and banisters as a matter of course, at both ends. That is as much about your deposit as it is about the new place.

Can you move just one item?
Yes. A sofa, a fridge, a piano, a treadmill. It is one of the most common calls we get, and it is usually handled by two movers.
Do you provide boxes?
Yes and blanket wrap and shrink wrap for furniture are included either way.
Do you move things up to a third floor walk up?
Routinely. It takes longer than a ground floor move and we will say so in the estimate rather than let the clock say it for us.
