3 Keys to Efficiently Selling Your Furniture

One of the great perks of being a mover is all of the free furniture people give us. I took advantage of this and started selling it. For a year I devoted a ton of time to this, even opening a small shop. I would post to different sites and then have people meet me at the shop to pick up. I learned a lot, met a ton of people, and improved my salesmanship. Most of all I learned how to sell furniture efficiently. That means quickly and for the most money. If you’re interested, here are the 3 most important things to remember.

  • Using only one selling app will keep things simple and only require you to post once. Which one should you use? There’s a lot of apps out there to sell your furniture, but when it comes down to it, the one with the most users is the one that gets the most eyes to view your listing meaning your item will sell faster. Craigslist was the best for many years but recently the Facebook Marketplace is the place to be. Within Facebook there’s the “buy and sell groups” that can be used alongside the “Marketplace” to further widen your posts reach. Join the largest groups in your area and post to all of them while you post into the marketplace. While posting in the marketplace, Facebook gives you the option to post in up to 10 groups at the same time. Take advantage.
  • A post with clear pictures and a detailed description will actually save you time in the long run. If every angle and dimension is there for a potential buyer to see, then they will have no need to contact you unless they are ready to buy. I would get the same question from 9 different people about one item. That’s 9 interruptions in my day that I could have prevented by being more descriptive from the start.
  • Everything is only worth what others are willing to pay for it. Make sure you take a moment to search similar items of similar quality in order to figure out what you can sell your own furniture for. This is easy with the search bar on Facebook. Higher prices mean more profit, but much more time wasted while you wait for the item to sell. Too high and it’ll never sell. If you want this process to end quickly, price low. Remember that your time is valuable, and weigh that in when you price your items.

REMEMBER 1.) Stick to both the Facebook Marketplace and its “Buy and Sell Groups”. They work best. 2.) Good pictures and descriptions will save you from wasting time and energy answering questions. 3.) Your things are only worth what others are willing to pay for it. Find the market value.
